Greetings,

I am looking for information on Sarah Morris who married Josiah Shepard Cady.  A census shows her parents born in CT and MD.  Some genealogists have listed her parents as Benjamin Morris and Lucy Butler.  This cannot be.

I am going to LaGrange IN where Josiah lived and his son, Hiram Morton Cady was born in late May.  Any support info would be most appreciated.

I'm not sure why you indicate her parents cannot be Benjamin & Lucy?

In the 1880 US Federal Census in Pentwater, Oceana, MI Sarah Cady states that her father was born in Connecticut and her mother in Maryland.  She reports the same in the 1900 Federal Census; and the 1910 Census. Unfortunately none of them provide names.  I believe that her father is a Benjamin and possibly her mother is a Lucy however it cannot be the Lucy Butler many reference as that Lucy was born in Connecticut not MD. Additionally Sarah Morris was born in Catherine, Schuyler, NY not Chenango Point. Catherine is identified on her death certificate.  Her marriage certificate says she is from Southport NY which is much closer to Catherine. And finally the old family bible (handwritten by ?) says she was born in Catherine. The family bible and other documentation also show her last name spelled Morris.

I wish she was a Butler but right now I need more proof that would counter prove the census records and family bible.

Well evidently; there are more than one Josiah Cady's with wifes names Sarah Morse/Morris, with a son HIram.  (Josiah b. Gill, MA son of David Cady)

Hi Chris,

You have the correct family for Josiah Cady and Sarah Morris.  What I was trying to determine is the correct parents for Sarah. Some have her parents as Benjamin Morris and Lucy Butler.  Sarah's mother was born in MD so Lucy is incorrect.

Sorry if I confused you.

Caryn

Some records say mother is Lucy WHITNEY, can't confirm that.  Found her grave with husband Benjamin in NY but no LNAB or marriage record found.  Josiahs grave gives wife middle name as Sarah Satteriale
