Four Tildes, ~~~~, do they work?

When editing a bio, it indicates that "Including the four tildes ~~~~ automatically "signs" the comment with a link to your profile and the time and date." The method would be something like <ref>Reference here. ~~~~ </ref>.

I can't get it to work, all I end up with is the four tildes. Has anyone got it to work? If so, what am I doing wrong?

Hi Jim,

can you post a link of a profile where it didn't work so I can have a look?

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Hi Jim, If you look in the examples above the info about the four tildes in the edit screen, it shows you how to use it. You will need to just add them at the end of a reference. I had to play around a little to figure it out, but putting it at the end of a reference line added the link to my profile as it said it would.

I think I followed the example exactly. You can see it at Walton-844. Here is my reference: <ref>Albert Stillman Batchellor, ed., Probate Records of the Province of New Hampshire, 1615-1717, New Hampshire State Paper Series Volumes 31-39 (Concord, N. H.: State of New Hampshire, 1907), 31:174–175. ~~~~ </ref>

Here is how it looks: ↑ Albert Stillman Batchellor, ed., Probate Records of the Province of New Hampshire, 1615-1717, New Hampshire State Paper Series Volumes 31-39 (Concord, N. H.: State of New Hampshire, 1907), 31:174–175. ~~~~
I'll ask Chris. I got it to work once, and now I can't get it to work again either!
Thank you. Makes me feel better. :) I was beginning to think my senior moments were getting out of hand. LOL

Yipes! Jim, you're right.

The "signature" shortcut doesn't work inside footnotes, despite the explicit example we have there. I'll fix that example so it isn't misleading.

Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for pointing this out.

Any possibility that this can be changed so that the tildes DO work in the REF tags?

Upate: see this "limitation" to the use of tildes when *creating* a new profile:
