G2G: James Hays-1194 m. Elizabeth Clayton-971 Parents of John (1785), James (1788), Clayton (1796)

Question

2th g-grandfather, John Willis Hays II (Hayes) (1834 - 1901) left journal of his life.  His father, Dr John Willis Hays, died months before his birth.  His mother moved from Halifax County, Virginia to Enfield and Granville Co, North Carolina.  All he knows of his family is the little his mother told him.

He mentioned his father's brother, James, who went to Tennessee.  His father's brother, Clayton, who was with Dr. Hays in Halifax but eventually went to Texas.

I researched "Willis" and "Clayton" surnames.  James Hays-1197 married Elizabeth Clayton-971.  Her mother was Elizabeth Willis-1046.  They had many children including a John (b 1785), Clayton (b 1796) and James (b 1788)

Could this be my Hays family?  Any DNA test available?  Thanks in advance!

In my Hays tree I have a Dr. Charles Fenton Clayton, who married Anne Elizabeth Hays. I also have a Charles Willis Hays but he did not marry a Clayton.  Only one I have found was Anne.  If Anne fits into your tree, give a shout out and I'll give you what info I have.  As of right now...my tree is not filled out on this site but I do have it on another.

Hey Debra - Thanks for the response.  Since my post over a year ago, AncestryDNA list me a member of a DNA Circle for James Hays and Elizabeth Clayton.  I understand these circles are not reliable.  Too bad Ancestry does not give Chromosome number and segment info.  I am interested in your ancestors and will email you privately for more info.  Thanks, Liz
