Mystery of the vanishing sources

Question

I created a few profiles from census reports and added the source. When I returned to those profiles to expand upon them, the sources were gone. The bullet (*) was still there but no source and nothing in the "changes". What gives? Anyone have an answer for this?

I looked at your contributions history to see if I could find the profiles you are talking about. I do see a couple of places where you edited a citation to the Census, and your edit over-wrote some information about the record contents that you had added previously. For example, see this edit. Is the content that was removed in that edit some of what you are looking for?

And following up with what Elllen said, you can find the changes you made incorrectly and reverse them.

It's easy to write over sources if you have several tabs open and add something to a profile from one tab, save it, close it then add something to that profile from another tab without refreshing the page.

I agree Gillian, it is so easy to close a tab, when you have multiple tabs open, without saving. In the early days of computing, one thing that I learned was to SAVE...SAVE...SAVE.  It is only 1 click, and it can save such a lot of hard work, and heartache.
