I am on a team looking at the question of where to move or what should we be doing for our members.

Thanks

Hi Ron,

You may want to remove tel. nos. and e-mail address before you get unwanted calls or spam. You can be reached via private messages on your profile page.

: )
Ron, I edited your email address so it wouldn't be picked up by webcrawlers.  I agree with Ruben that you should remove the phone numbers.

Under G, how to on gedcom

I am a Henderson descendant too.  DNA testing might help determine which branch of the Clan a person belongs to - the Caithness branch (from which I descend) is different from the Glencoe group,
Nancy, which test did you take to get this information.  I am also a henderson descendant,  but I do not know my branch.
I haven't taken DNA test yet.  I read an article that discussed the DNA from the Caithness group was distinct from other groups.

I've never tried setting up {{Space: Henderson Clan families]] or doing a one name study on wikitree.  Both can be done, but we would need to know the guidelines for doing them.

I'm a Henderson descendant also.  If we are doing Clan Henderson, they must descended from the Henderson Clan of Scotland.  A one-name study on Henderson might be a bit broader since everybody named Henderson might not be descendants of Clan Henderson..One has to consider name changes, adoptions, etc.

This is exciting!  I am also a Henderson descendant.  I have my AuDNA posted.   See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Henderson-10788  and

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Henderson-4550   and

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Henderson-4552

WikiTree requires sources so you get better trees for the most part.

It shows who has done DNA testing on their lines

It encourages collaboration which is the best way to get good solid complete trees.

It is free so all your members can join

My maternal grandmother was a Henderson. I have traced her line back to the early 1700s in Bellingham, Northumberland (not added on here yet) and think that the next step back is going to take me over the border into Scotland. My DNA matches with Henderson in their trees are beginning to cluster into Roxburghshire, Fife and Aberdeenshire.
Mine are from Aberdeenshire.  I do not have them all entered yet but I do have some in..  or someone in my line does..

see:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Henderson-4550 and her  siblings and her line back.

Why?

Because WikiTree is free!

Because WikiTree is all about collaboration!

Because WikiTree has the most flexible software anywhere!

Because WikiTree promotes accuracy of sources!

Because you can present your data in many different ways and personalize the look!

Because WikiTree is about genealogy!

Because WikiTree is about a single family tree!

Please consider the following if you intend to use DNA for your Clan project.

I believe WikiTree is the best place because project participants can collaborate on connecting their ancestry.  Or the project admin can add their information on their behalf.

When project members have matching haplotypes and a shared direct paternal line ancestor, then WikiTree lets you mark each father/son relationship as confirmed with DNA.  See:  https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Relationship&action=calculate&person1_name=Athey-170&person2_name=Athey-68

If the shared direct paternal line ancestor is unknown for matching participants then their DNA relationship can still be pointed out:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Roberts_Y-STR_Group_1

Participants can easily share a live direct paternal descendant chart which also shows who has been Y-DNA tested:  https://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/Roberts-7104/890#Y

Other types of DNA can be used to confirm a relationship with your Clan:  https://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/Unknown-219884/890#mt

A free space page can be used to share project information with the public:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Sasser_Surname_DNA_Project

If additional DNA features would be helpful then you can collaborate on creating them.

I looked at the Sasser Project and it is much smaller than the Henderson Project would be. We expect to have as many as 100 unique family lines identified by y-DNA. I don't see scrolling through the list as a practical approach.

Hello Ron;  are you talking about the consolidated Henderson tree on Ancestry?  What are your goals.  If you want it to be more widely available, you could open it.  Last I looked it was a private tree.  Things to consider: if you move it to Wikitree, it would lose its cohesion.  It would immediately duplicate profiles on Wikitree, each of which would have to be independently merged and cleaned.  All of it would be immediately open to "improvement" by all and sundry, as Wiki is a collaborative site.  Clan Henderson's tree is no cleaner than any of the others, as they are all compiled from submissions, but it would no longer show what had come from the original tree.  Regarding one-name study, the Clan site does include all common English/Gaelic variants. The Clan site is not used as it should be, but that is the fault of the participants, not the administrators.

Howdy from Texas Ron, I Created and am Project Coordinator for  Clan Edmonstone .  Project Clan Edmonstone is a Sub-Project of Scottish Clans Project, is a Sub-Project of Scottish History, is a Sub-Project of Scotland Project.

Clan Edmonston did not exist here when I arrived in 2014. I was eager to share this information with the world expeditiously.

It was recommended by a good friend and staff member that I wait until after I had "Learned the ropes" here at wikitree, I am glad that I waited to learn more about wikitree-markup and Style and standards.

Many profiles were already here at WT. I did not use a Gedcom. I did it all manually. I did not step on any other Profile Managers toes.

Many Profiles are now Project protected under the Notables Project , and a few are connected to European Aristocrats Project .

Further... I needed to earn a Pre-1700 and Pre-1500 Badge. These are no easy task, the learning curve here is steep. I lean more everyday.

I have had to have much help in WT. I once made a huge mess out of The Mayflower Project. I am grateful to Staff, Leaders, Project Coordinators, Profile Managers, and general members for all their help.

I could not have accomplished this feat alone, or in my early membership days.

Eric Weddington , may not have know that there is a Google / Wikitree forum / users group:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/wikitree-scottish-clan-project .

While it is still under construction (Still doing a One Name Study) . . Clan Edmonstone is my greatest online achievement. Hollar' at me If I can help in any way, JPV IV :)

Would those of us who have Henderson ancestry but are not paying members of your Clan Henderson Society have access to the profiles?
