I Am looking for the parents of my Grandad and can't find anything!! I think he was an orphan ..

Question

So my Grandad is

James Edward walsh I think he was born james Edward Hopwood and changed his last name to his mothers Maiden name Walsh..

he married Rosalind

And was born on 5th Aug 1925 I'm unsure of the month and day

Please help! I've tried searching

Oh yeah sorry! 

Erm I believe he was born on 5th august 1925 district wakefield county Yorkshire and died July 1985 in Dewsbury West Yorkshire, he married my grandma Rosalind ( Clifton )  in 1975. 

most records his name will be James Edward Walsh or some show James E H walsh.

So if he was 50 when he married your grandma Rosalind it may be worth looking to see if there is a previous marriage.

What does his marriage certificate say about his father's name?

Well I've been on the ancestry site all weekend and can't really find any documents just that I just posted saying dates of his marriage and not anything else as it's not a proper certificate. I have a scanned copy of his birth index I found online and death that is all but no other names

Just one saying his mums maiden name was walsh

There is a  JAMES E H WALSH married Dorothy English 1946 4th quarter Wakefield Yorkshire

I seriously doubt that is your grandparents' marriage record. Your father was born in the 1950s. That marriage took place in 1975.

Deb, You have a good point, but I would not rule out the 1975 marriage until we find out whether there was a previous marriage that delayed his marriage to the mother of his children.

Your father and at least some of his siblings are listed as both Craven and Walsh in the BMD.

Lynette is listed only as Lynette Craven. Keith M, Graham C, Michael J, and Anne M are all listed under both names Walsh and Craven.

That may indicate that James Walsh's birth name was Craven,

It looks as though your father could have several siblings that are not on your list.

Go to freebmd.org.uk and search on births with surname Walsh and mother's maiden name Clifton.

They could be, I remember a cousin saying he was married before but I can't find anything of who to or any other children I've searched long and hard, I just want to know where he came from , who his parents were but nothing is coming up on searches so far..

James E Hopwood registered Q3 1925. Mother's maiden name Walsh. Wakefield vol 9c page 67. 

I would recommend that you send for the birth certificate from GRO to get more information about his parents.
