Automatically showing age on profiles

Hi all,

I think it might be useful to have a person's age shown on their profile, if it is known and if the person's privacy setting allows for this. If they are deceased, this would be the age they died at, and if they are alive, their present age. I often find myself calculating ages based on dates of birth and death.

The age could be automatically calculated and shown after the date of death (if deceased), or after date of birth (if alive). A step further would be to show ages also in overviews such as the ancestors and descendants trees. Or to make a setting that allows users to opt into (or opt out of) showing ages.

What do you think? And has this been discussed already?

Thanks!

Age should be subject to the same privacy settings as dates of birth and death.

The problem might be that a lot of the ages on WikiTree are estimated. There are programs available free that will calculate the age date for you; years, months and days.

Try this..... https://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadded.html?m1=03&d1=26&y1=1872&type=sub&ay=64&am=2&aw=&ad=20&rec=

Yes, if date of birth and/or date of death is tagged as uncertain, the calculated age should also be tagged as uncertain.

I have often wondered why WikiTree doesn't do this.
(but I have never asked)
