Do you have ancestors who have been in a disaster anywhere in the world?

The WorldWide Disasters Project has free-space pages for Explosions, Tsunamis, Plane Disasters, Forest Fires, Hurricanes as well as Typhoons, Tornados, Black Death, Blizzards, Avalanches, Dust Bowl Disaster, 1918 Flu Pandemic, Industrial Fires, Mudslides, Mining Disasters, Oklahoma City Bombing, Volcanic Eruptions, 9/11 Subproject, and the Titanic subproject, and Mining disaster subproject.

This list is just the "tip of the iceberg" for disasters that have occurred worldwide, with no limit to the era. As you can see we have covered the most recent disasters. This project covers survivors as well as rescue workers.

Example: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Disasters Worldwide Disasters

If you are interested in this project, just reply here on G2G, or go to the project page to request to be awarded a badge. We will get a badge awarded to you.

There is always room for more space pages on topics not yet covered!

Hi Mary, I have the badge but to date haven't been able to contribute much (busy with work). Is anyone working on the Italian Hall tragedy, connected with the 1913 Michigan miners' strike?
I will PM you.
D.,  I have shown the link you posted to Sheryl who has a subproject  called Worldwide Mining Disasters.  She will get back to you.  Thank you for your interest in the Worldwide Disaster Project

I only had 1 ancestor die in the 1918 flu epidemic but 64 people died in my house when it was used as an emergency hospital during the flu.  I have articles, names & obituaries.  My son's ancestor was a priest who got special recognition for nursing the sick (never caught it himself).  I also have a relatively new interest in the Johnstown, Pa flood of  May, 31 1899. Over 2200 people perished.  I would love to be added to the project & do what I can to help.

No Probs Mary, I was in email anyway when my phone dinged that new emails had come in.

Wasn't that Johnstown flood featured on the Men Who Made America.. That working in the mine there had weakened the dam structure and the Pinkertons were called in to put down a strike, firing on the miners and mill workers.

I don't know if it would be helpful. I reside in an old coal mining community with most coming from Italy. I don't know a lot about it, but I know they have extensive records in the Local History Center. I did volunteer research for 20 years and know that a lot exists. My husband's grandfather came to America in the early years of the 20th century from Austria to work the coal mines and was injured severely, but survived. I don't know the circumstances, however.

If you think it would help the group any, I would be glad to help.

My personal interest would be in 9/11 and the Black Death, which I have been reading about recently. I recently signed up for the great course on the Black Death.

Is the 9/11 project only on One World Trade or on both towers/all the buildings?

Welcome MaryAnn Thomas.  to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Worldwide_Disasters

There is a 9/11 Project.  which only has a project page, nothing else was done..  I will place your name on it.  Feel free to research and develop space pages.  If you need my help, just ask.   Recently Martha Garrett created a World Trade Center space page also.   I will also contact you personally.  Thank you for your interest in Worldwide Disasters.

I am interested in joining this project.  I had 2nd Great Uncle, Charles Glenn Ludlow, Ludlow-758 that died in a tornado in Orestes, Indiana in 1922.  Thanks!
by Rhonda Zimmerman G2G6 Pilot (228k points)

Welcome Rhonda Zimmerman to Woldwide Disasters Project.                      This is the link https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Worldwide_Disasters.                          Take a look at the page, Members usually create a space page for this.  We originally created space pages for each disaster, and there is one on tornados.  Then if you want you can create a space page to describe the Indiana tornado in Indiana.   You would need to find sources,  and images for your page.  If you need help, and have never created a space page before, just ask.    I will add your name to the list of members.
