Will the real Parents of John Briggs B 1609 please stand up!

Question

John Briggs, -397, -405, -557 and -1221 have one birthday, one death day, one wife, and three sets of parents. John doesn't appear to be in Andersons, PGM.  Where can I find the truth? Or better yet, can someone tell me the truth?

I'm digging through the journals available on americanancestors.org and saw reference to a 1953 genealogy "The Briggs Family" which appears to be about your man. But... the article where I saw it referenced argues against it because its John Briggs was born 1618, too late to be your Briggs.

Alternatively, you follow the recommendations of wikitree and:

* detach the parents, but link to them from the narrative, under a header "== Disputed Origins=="

* merge the dupes

* clean up the resulting narrative.

Took about 1 3/4 hrs, what with all the colateral merges. Sheesh.

It looks like someone came along and re attached some parents without citing a source. Do they need to be re detached?

(This is so frustrating...)
