Orphan Peter Smith, possibly McGowan

Will you help me connect Peter Smith to his family? His parents died when he was about 3 years old. Family notes say that he was born in County Meath, Ireland about June 29 1830. The notes also say that he was raised by family, but do not indicate their names. They made note that his birth parents were William Smith and Catherine Doherty. I do not know if they died in Ireland, in travel, or in the US. What I do know is that Peter Smith had a good life, married Ann Dunne (M 1852 in Rome, NY), and had children, Rose, Mary, John Henry, Margaret, Peter, James, Bridget, Catherine, Jennie, Eliza, and Ella Smith. Census shows them living in Constantia, NY, USA. He died in Oneida, NY, USA in 1886. In other family papers, we found a note that Smith was anglicized McGowan... not sure if we should research that surname in Ireland when looking for William Smith (McGowan, Macgowan). I have him entered on wikitree here Smith-103507

In FINDAGRAVE.com there is a Peter Smith that was married to Ann Dunn but the dates are different.

Peter Smith, born 1830, died 1895 and buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery at Jewell, Oneida County, NY

Ann Dunn Smith, born 1830, died 1898, buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery at Jewell, Oneida County, NY

An associated child is:

James J Smith, born 29 May 1862, died 16 Apr 1939, buried in Saint Joseph's Cemetery at Albion, Orleans County, NY

It lists James's wife as Elizabeth A McEntee Smith, born 1869 in NYm died 28 Mar 1953, buried in Saint Joseph's Cemetery at Albion, Orleans County, NY

You might take a look at this info in FINDAGRAVE.com and see if it helps in your research.

Good Luck
