this martha floyd could be my great great grandmother martha j. (mansel) floyd who's also listed on other ancestry's as married to jessee shumak reflecting them as parents of moses floyd schumak grove hill clarke county alabama nov 1860. shumack page states moses was raised by relatives after his parents died 1865- although my great grandmother lucinda mansel allen was born to martha j. floyd and robert mansel 29 may 1866 making her death inaccurate for 1865. also jesse schumak reported resurfaced after having deserted civil war and lived to the ripe old age of 100. martha j. floyd might have died in childbirth with lucinda mansel because robert mansel remarried when she was a baby to emma brooks and had another big family. lucinda, daughter of martha j. floyd is listed in the records as "lulu" and raised with many brothers and sisters mansel. tragically in 1912 she died from horrific burns sustained in a kerosene lamp fire that caught her nightdress on fire, leaving many grown children and grandchildren. the youngest child was my granddad aubrey t, allen who was only 7yrs old when his mother died. i'm hoping somebody will be able to once and for all give martha j. floyd her place in history. usual stories of prominent families focus squarely on the patriarchy and little to nothing about our mothers and grandmothers. this i'm working to change. d.martin
