Abisha Stetson was born in Plymouth, MA (section now incorporated as Kingston) Friday 2 Feb 1706, the son of Caleb and Sarah (Brewster) Stetson. Abisha married in Hingham, MA 21 Aug 1730, Elizabeth James, who was born in Hingham on Wednesday 21 Aug 1706, the daughter of Thomas and Patience (Tower) James. She died in Hingham on 21 Jun 1786.

*Note: There were two contemporary men named Abisha Stetson living in Plymouth County in the 1700s, one from Kingston and one from Pembroke. The Descendants of Cornet Robert Stetson (1933) identified them as: Abisha Stetson (#1-3-6-1, Vol 1, p 42) reputedly born in 1706, son of Isaac and Elizabeth (Pray) Stetson and Abisha Stetson (#1-8-1-1, Vol 1, p 101), born in Plymouth on 22 Feb 1706, son of Caleb and Sarah (Brewster) Stetson. Abisha (#1-8-1-1) has been placed as the man who married Elizabeth James.
Examination of the limited known facts involving these two men brings this compiler to the conclusion that The Descendants of Cornet Robert Stetson erred in assigning parentage, when carrying Abisha Stetson forward under #1-8-1-1.
The marriage certificate of Abisha Stetson, who married Elizabeth James, stated that he was born in Kingston. Kingston was incorporated from a part of North Plymouth on 16 Jun 1726. This Abisha followed the trade of a shipwright.
Caleb Stetson and his family resided in North Plymouth near the Jones River. Caleb was one of the individuals who petitioned to have this section set off as a separate parish. This section was incorporated as Kingston. Caleb was also a shipwright.
The Plymouth Co Court records document that an Abisha witha wife name Deborah and four children represented to be inhabitants of Pembroke, was warned out of Bridgewater, MA on 26 May 1763. This Abisha apparently remained in Bridgewater, as the Court of Common Pleas begun on 5 Jul 1763, documented a case brought by Henry Monroe (Pembroke Yeoman) verses Abisha Stetson (Bridgewater cordwainer).
Isaac Stetson and family resided in Pembroke. The vital records document the births of some of his children from 1708 thru 1715.
From the above information Abisha Stetson, husband of Elizabeth James, has been placed as the son of Caleb and Sarah (Brewster) Stetson of Kingston and not the son of Isaac and Elizabeth (Pray) Stetson of Pembroke as previously claimed in The Descendants of Cornet Robert Stetson
