I am looking for my ggrandfather, John Wooldridge, Sr. b. Sussex, England according to my uncle's notes. I have not been able to find his birth certificate, altho 2 others have found possible connections with 2 separate families. He came to US in 1820, with his wife Sarah Watts, and one son, William Anderson, who was b. 25 Apr 1816. Sarah was b. 1779, in Surrey, England. Any ideas or information would be greatly appreicated! Thanks, happy hunting!

Hi Rose,

Have you contacted the profile manager? Admittedly a very very quick search but there are some records that conflict with the info on the profile that you may want to explore? I'll keep looking...

Firstly last name of wife wrong or wrong wedding added:

Name: John Wooldridge
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 27 Jun 1815
Marriage Place: Saint Mary,Newington,Surrey,England
Spouse: Sarah Hill
FHL Film Number: 307696, 307697, 307698, 307699, 307700, 307701, 307702, 307703

There is also some dubious info on Ancestry trees, one has the same marriage date but in Newington, Connecticut. And then William born back in England a year later! Happy to help you unravel the mystery but if I was you I would start with what you know and ignore everything else other than the sources you find. There appears to be a lack of sources backing up anything I read on trees!

Best of luck, let us know if you need more help!

I've added some sources to Sarah and their son William. I can't find anything from England apart from the marriage registration linked, however, Sarah would have been around thirty five so it is possible she had married previously and her maiden name is Watts? I couldn't find a marriage between a Watts and Hill that matched though.

Thanks! Yes, I am at the same dead end with Sarah. Can not find her first husband. Some document told me she was a widow, not sure where I saw that.
