The death date on his stone is different than the death date in the Original town records for Durham. The same for his wife. I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about this?? Thanks!

Have you tried contacting the profile manager, Mary Hammond?

She can't do anything about it. This is a Genealogy question. George Bowies records all show that he died in 1863 yet the town records state he died sooner. I just need to know if anyone knows if this was a major oversite on the clerk's part or perhaps there is another George Bowie born around the same time? Also there could be a possibility that the clerk who wrote the record was looking at someone elses when he made his entry? The totally weird part is that the same thing happened with George's wife's record entered on the same page in the original town records. Please forgive me if that is not what this site is all about as I didn't read eveything due to not having a lot of time!!
Have you looked at the records on Family Search, another outlet of the LDS Genalogy  workers. In the last couple of days, after thrashing around trying to break through my lines' walls, I found and used it. It is quite amazing what the people have amassed under the aegis of their genealogical findings. YOur first two weeks are free and after that--oops, I don't know.

Cindy,The references came from books.and CD's.  If you have the correct information, please post it.  My only guess or assumption is that he may have died in winter, hence the ground was too frozen for him to be buried.  The body may have been stored in a cold place until the ground was warmer.  Mary (Mentor, greeter and registered genealogist)

The dates are years apart. I know that the town record is incorrect because I have found enough proof to know that he passed in 1863. I just need to figure out why the town record is so wrong. I have seen mistakes before with town records but nothing as severe as this.
I am compiling information in order to submit to DAR. I have all that I need and just wondered if anyone else on here has seen the town records and knew why they were so off. whether the clerk got two George's messed up or what. I will make DAR aware of it and see if they had ever noticed once I submit my work to them.

Good Luck!  angel

Thank you so much
Might be two different men.

The gravestone was made years or even generations later, and was just wrong.

I am doing further research. Thanks, Jillian.  laugh
