Family Mystery Finally Solved!

My mother never knew for sure who her grandfather was. For years I've been researching to prove whether it was the father listed on her mothers birth certificate (Robert Harrison) or her grandmothers' previous husband (Henry Rabanus). Her mother was born one month after her grandmother married Harrison and family gossip always led us to believe it was Rabanus.

There was never very much information on Harrison so couldn't find his siblings or parents.

Moms DNA test was done on both 23andMe and AncestryDNA. Finally, I got a clue because she had multiple cousin matches that showed Harrison as the family line. I still couldn't make it work until I looked at the date of birth of one of the children. It was the same as Harrison. When I researched more I found his and his second wife's application to a Veterans home that showed the correct parents and the second wife I had down as Harrison's second wife!

For a period of time, including both marriages and 1920, 1930, 1940 Census he listed himself as Robert Harrison and his parents as George Harrison and Priscilla Peddicord. But his actual name was George Ferris Anderson and his parents were George Anderson and Priscilla Harrison (her mothers maiden name was Peddicord).

That one document on Washington State Digital Archives provided the majority of proof with the DNA backing it up!

While he lived under the name Harrison he was apparently a bootlegger.

So exciting to finally figure this all out and get more ancestors opened up!

Yours is a great example of how DNA plus "classic" genealogy are not just complementary, but synergyistic.
