Before the Connect-a-Thon weeked begins, we will have some discussion in our group email about what we will be working on and how to connect profiles, etc.

Welcome to your first Connect-a-Thon. Well, it's everybody's first Connect-a-Thon, don't you know. First, the goal is to get all the profiles connected to one big tree. If you've ever done a Connector challenge, you will know that sometimes you just need to add one profile, like a mother, and voilà, connected! Other times, it can literally take more than a year and the addition of over 200 profiles to make the connection (I am looking at you John Staub - hope you, your father, all your cousins, and their husbands, wives, and kids are enjoying your connection. No, really, I was happy to do it.) So, since every added profile gets us closer to making the connection, that is what the Connect-a-Thon is trying to do. A burden shared is a burden halved. Plus it's fun to work on teams, type your fingers to the bone, and stay up past your bedtime until your eyes are all bleary, to just add one more profile. That's why. The help pages offer how:

By the way, I love looking at your surname because it has my favorite expression in it - heh heh heh.

Just add a profile where you can see a relation is missing, making sure each created profile has some good primary sources. Many people make a linear tree, upwards without putting the brothers and sisters on each generation, or don't add a spouse even though they named them in the bio. These profiles are the key to making connections.
