So I just happened to reexamine a few profiles that I added when I first started here on wikitree.I did what I thought was thorough research. Now, as I look at a few in my paternal line. The Kreutz tree seems to need some fixing. I'm currently gathering new information to f

I had research an entirely unrelated branch, because someone had the exact same name and almost down to the day same birthday in the same parish as my actual great grandmother. It wasn't until I lured a cousin over from Geni that the mistake was noticed, he saw that the parents name wasn't quite the same. Whoops! So much time spent researching the wrong people. frown

Antonia, even if the people don't belong in your own family tree, your research may be valid and maybe someday someone will come along and find your research and thank you for it.

When I started with genealogy many years ago, I had the wrong birth year on one of my great-grandmothers, and researched a large branch which I eventually discovered didn't belong where I thought it would. But hey, most of them were cousins of my own ancestors. So I decided to keep them, and that was the start of my wall-to-wall One Place Study.
Sometimes it's important  to research what turns out to be an unrelated line to distinguish it from your family's line.  I ended up publishing an entire article in the NEHGS Register about a totally unrelated line!
I researched a Kreutz line just to see if I was related. No luck on that branch. But it was pretty fun.
I have made.and corrected so many mistakes on here. I'm glad I haven't received any crazy messages. Because of my mistakes. Every once in a while, someone catches it, then fixed it. Then I thank them for taking the time to take care of it.

Learning curves can sometimes look like vertical brick walls.  (Not speaking from experience, or anything. ~o.0~)

Funny you should mention this. I was just tonight working on some of my earliest profile because I was shocked at what I put there. You are not alone, brother!

I'm not going to ask you to fix my error at all. Instead I'm going to have put some mulch around my tree.

I think we've all felt like this at some point. Better practices come with experience. Generally, you'll keep on the straight and narrow if you only add information as you can effectively document it. Be source driven, not name driven.

I'm getting better looking at real sources instead of pulling them out of thin air

Life's full of mistakes. No one is perfect. So the best thing you can do is learn from the mistakes and edit accordingly. No one is going to judge if you make mistakes. Especially here. If there is a problem, our army of Wikitreers will be more than happy to serve you. =D

I've been lucky on here for the most part when I ask for help.
