Looking for the Straub / Strawb / Stroup family that came to Pennsylvania in the early 1800s

I am trying to trace the ancestry of my 3rd-great grandmother, Judith STRAUB (also spelled as STRAWB and STROUP, who was born 4 Nov 1810.  She married Joseph Mowder in 1833 in Pennsylvania.  They later moved to Mason, Illinois, where Judith died on 9 Jan 1887.

The book "Genealogical and Biographical Record of North-Eastern Kansas", published 1900, states that during her "early girlhood came with her parents to America, the family locating in Pennsylvania."  They supposedly are from Württemberg, Germany.

I calculated her date of birth from the information shown on her death certificate.  The certificate shows her date of death as 9 Jan 1887, and her age at death as 76 years, 2 mos, 5 days.  This places her born on 4 Nov 1810.  She shows as age 40, 50 and 60 in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census records.  However, on the 1880 census she is shown as age 68.

In the book ,"Church Record of the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Mahony (sic) Township, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania; Church Record of the Christian Congregations in Hemlock Township, Pa" by Amandus S. Leiby, there is the following:

Judith <STRAUB> 

Christening: 09 Mar 1812, Hemlock, Northumberland, Pennsylvania 

Father: Joseph STRAUB; Mother: Barbara.

 

This date of birth would mesh with the 1880 census.  However, it conflicts with the other census records mentioned as well as her age on her death certificate.

 

Any assistance to track down her parents and ancestors will be greatly appreciated!

Notice that it was a *christening* record, not a birth record. Especially if they were en route around the time she was born, there may have been a delay in her christening. Or they wanted to christen her once they were settled in their new home.

Yeah, it's hard to say.  A year and a half seems a bit long.  This is one of my walls I am hoping to break down through autosomal DNA at some point...

Sometimes following a collateral line helps. I use Hertiage Quest (availabe at home via many libraries). I found a possible son or nephew, Felix, in pretty short order using book search. Felix is son of Josehp Straub from Wurtemberg, Germany.

Note that her husband Joseph Mowder was born in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.

In the 1820 census, there is a "Widow Straub" in the same county, with a female of the right age to be Judith in the household.

Jillaine, I don't know for a fact that her husband Joseph Mowder was born in Northumberland. But according to the book, "1879 History of Menard & Mason Counties" published by O.L. Baskin & Co., Chicago, that's where it was.  Joseph's another brick wall with unknown parents!!  But I really do appreciate the investigation you undertook for me.  Thanks very much!!
