Newspapers.com is free this weekend

I am on the email list and received a notification that Newspapers.com is free for Presidents Day weekend. The fine print says:

Access available via the links in this email only. Registration required. After the free access period ends, you will only be able to view papers using a paid Newspapers Publisher Extra subscription. Terms and Conditions apply.

So I don't know if you signup right now if you will have the free access. But I had let my subscription lapse, and I just checked and I have access without renewing my old subscription.

The email is misleading because it says we get free access to the entire collection all weekend long. The site has premium content that you cannot view with the basic subscription, and it looks like free access is still limited to the non-premium content.

Barry, I suspect that to get that free access, you will need to provide a credit card number.

By the way, what is the premium content?  I am a subscriber, but did not know there was anything considered premium (or anything one could get for free).
I just used it without them asking for any payment information. But I don't know what will happen for someone who doesn't have an account already.
I am currently going through my "ancestry hints" to download as many obits as I can utilizing the "free access" being offered this weekend!!!
I signed up through my ancestry account, and it asked me for my credit card information for a free trial.

The "premium" is the Extra edition, I believe, which includes more newspaper titles and some of them have editions available through 2019.

Natalie, I'm not sure what you mean.  They have never asked me to upgrade my subscription in order to pay for additional content.
There are two subscription levels, Julie. One is Basic, the other is Publisher's Extra. There is a substantial price difference between the two. Publisher's Extra content can be identified by the orange plus-sign icon beside the newspaper's name in the search results.
Thanks.  I just looked at my account and do have the Publisher Extra, though I don't recall ever having been asked.  Regardless, I think it worth the price and use it all the time.
I fully agree! When I do pay for a subscription, it's always Publisher's Extra.
While it's free, though, go in there and clip away! You can access them (clippings) even without your paid subscription!

I do that before my subscription is about to expire. I just find all things relevant to the people I'm looking at working on, and clip, clip, clip. Then I allow the sub. to expire. They will email me a few weeks later and offer me a discount subscription (about 20 dollars less than the regular price.)

I received this email today as well! I was already logged into my account so was able to get access with just one click. No trial signup or anything, as this is just a free access weekend. I do occasionally pay for a subscription but am not a current paid subscriber.

I have already clipped an article from a Publisher's Extra paper (this is what would be considered premium) without issue (The Leader-Post, Regina SK). What is the paper you're unable to access? I don't mind having a look.

I don't know if this link will work for you, but:

https://www.newspapers.com/image/621136729/?terms=%22emma%2Bwillis%22%2Bnewkirk

is one of several papers I tried to view for which it said I need a subscription to view.

I had a look, Barry, and I have no problem viewing this link, and this paper (The Redondo Reflex) isn't Publisher's Extra, so I suspect the problem is with your account or browser. Perhaps close out of everything and try going in through the email link again?
Thanks for checking. Yes, I closed out, clicked the link through my email again, logged in, and now I can see the content that it wouldn't show me before. Strange.
