Williams five younger brothers all left England around 20 years later as well but went to the USA. He was the only family member to settle in Australia. His wifes maiden name was Bell who the Andersons were friendly with in their home town of Wainfleet in Lincolnshire. Indeed quite a few of Marias family followed her to Australia (some migrated at the same time as William & Maria, probably Benjamin Bell & his future wife Fanny Pascoe & and Marias sister Azuba It seems the other Bell family arrive in a second wave on the 'John' from London in 1840 arriving Adelaide Feb 5 1840 including Ann (& her 2 children Sarah & Frances) Isaiah Bell John Bell Joseph Bell Moses Bell The Bells stayed friends when arriving in Australia & some later married into the Anderson Family. They also gold mined together in Orange & later in Hill End with great success especially the Bells. Moses Bell (Marias nephew) along with 8 other miners found a 12,000 pound Gold nugget at Hill End NSW Australia in October 1872 He owned the "Steel Hotel " in Hill End in 1865

William on arrival in Sydney and subsequently farmed in the Richmond area near Sydney & was listed as a carrier then followed the gold rush to Ophir near Orange in NSW. Land was being subdivided & sold off at the same time by the government. At Ophir, the first useful discovery of gold in Australia was made in 1851, and this led to the Australian gold rush. Later discoveries of gold in nearby areas led to the establishment of Orange as a central trading centre for the gold. This is contrary to the popular belief that gold was first discovered close to the nearby regional town of Bathurst.

William Anderson's first property purchase was 15 April 1862 in Shadforth Orange. portion 56 of 68 acres followed by portion 172 of 98 acres the same year. He had moved from Parramatta in that year. The other portions 21,22,186 and 177 were not purchased until 1864. Bathurst of course was the major town for supply of goods to these early settlers with Orange & Blayney developing rapidly following the discovery of gold in the area & the opening up of the land to settlers. The rail to Orange was completed in April 1877 & it was foreseen that a village would spring up around the station at Spring Hill. Spring Hill the village was proclaimed on 8 November 1877. William was buried in Orange. His son William brought a pub in Wellington "Andersons Hotel" before moving to Sydney still in Pubs. Another son James ended up in Dubbo where when dies in his 30's. Yet another son George made a fortune with brother in law Moses Bell finding gold at Hill End & went on to be a developer at Bondi Beach & well known Race Horse owner. He is buried at North Head Cemetery known for being the burial place of Prime Ministers & wealthy families.

William was described on the ship's indent as a farm servant.

Text: William, described as a farmer was living with his son William Anderson at Springside Pretty Plains Lucknow. His probate listed his value at 85 Pound.

Michelle Anderson great Aunt gave this overview of William: Bought farming land near Parramatta, moved to Windsor then went West to Orange district, Spring Hill (still farming).

My American Cousin Raymond Anderson from Omaha NE created this wonderful blog covering his trip to Williams homeland https://www.normandy2019.com/post/hallowed-ground
