Minter Bailey Sr. was a Virginia colonist.

Minter Bailey Sr. lived in Virginia.
Minter was born on 12 June 1763 in Fauquier County, Virginia], the fourth of seven known children and six sons of Carr and Mary Minter Bailey.
On 10 December 1789, when he was twenty-six years old, he married Ann Norris in Fauquier County. Minter and "Nancy," had ten children, five sons and two daughters, including:
  1. John Bailey
  2. Hannah (Bailey) Jackson
  3. Minter Bailey, Jr.
  4. Mary Bailey
Apparently Minter was illiterate as he signed his marriage bond with an “x.”
In the 1790s or early 1800s, he sold his land on Broad Run, Fauquier County and bought 400 acres on Hacker's Creek in Harrison County_Virginia, now Jane Lew, Lewis County, West Virginia.

Minter appears in the 1810 census for Harrison County as "Menter Baly" in a household of twenty-four persons, including eleven slaves:
Free White Persons - Males - Under 10: 3; 10-15: 1; 16-25: 1; 26-44 : 1; 45 and over: 1.
Free White Persons - Females - Under 10: 3; 16-25: 2; 26-44: 1.
Numbers of Slaves: 11.
Number of Household Members Under 16: 7.
Number of Household Members Over 25: 3.

Death and burial

Nancy died in 1827, Minter in 1833, both of unknown causes. All of the children except perhaps Elizabeth were still living. Minter and Nancy are buried in the Watson Farm Cemetery in Jane Lew, Lewis County, in present-day West Virginia.

Minter Bailey was the son of Carr and Mary (Minter) Bailey of Fauquier Co., VA. 1770 -(Will names their children: James, Joseph, Betty, Carr, Minter, William and John).
Minter Bailey Sr. was the husband of Nancy Ann Norris. The 1833 will of Minter Bailey Sr. names their CHILDREN: William, Minter Jr., John, James and daughters Eleanor (single), Hannah Jackson, Mary Minter, and Eunice Stotts (1st husband was John Stalnaker) - BAILEY. SAR #85119 Minter Bailey Sr died 12 Nov 1833. (SON: Minter Bailey Jr, born 16 Mar 1799 in Fauquier Co Virginia, died July 1866; married Sarah "Sallie" Bastable.")
