Biography
Mary Bateman was born in 1818 in Chester County, PA, to Thomas and Elizabeth Evans Bateman. She married Matthew Ford White in Butler County, PA, in 1833. They were the parents of 11 children: Thomas, Sarah, John, Virginia, Lewis, Alexander, Joseph, Emma, Angeline, Ellen, and Elizabeth. [1] Mary's husband, Matthew, and sons Thomas and Lewis all fought in the Civil War. Mary died Dec. 5, 1885 in Whitestown, Butler County, PA , and is buried in Mt. Nebo cemetery. [2]
