Simon Brooks was born at Concord, Massachusetts on September 21, 1722, son of Ebenezer Brooks and Sarah Fletcher. [1]
He married Rachel Drury on October 22, 1747 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. She was born in Grafton, Massachusetts on October 11, 1728, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Drury. [2]
His father Ebenezer wrote his will on December 16, 1767, in it he names his wife and children including son Simon. [3]
In the settlement of Rachel's father Thomas Drury's estate, Elijah Drury, administrator, was ordered to distribute the remaining balance to the heirs, including a share to Rachel Brooks, wife of Simon Brooks. [4]
Simon Brooks was one of the original proprietors of Alstead, New Hampshire, when the tow was laid out in 1763. On 15 May 1775, as a resident of Alstead he was one of three men named to the town's Committee of Corrsepondence, to work with the Provincial Congress of New Hampshire, which was charged with maintaining communications and preparing for for military action against the British.[5] His last child recorded at Grafton, Massachusetts, was born on 5 Aug 1774,[2] so it would appear that he moved his family to Alstead in late 1774 or early 1775.
Simon died March 24, 1808 and was buried at Alstead, New Hampshire. [6]
Rachel died on October 11, 1816 and is buried with her husband. [7]
