Biography
John Jasper Covey was born on 15 Feb 1845 in Ray County, Missouri, USA, the 4th son to the parents of Susannah R. (Petty) and John Humphreys Covey.
He moved with his parents to Mercer County at the age of two, and lived on a farm near the old Pine school house.
He enlisted in the Civil War on 14 May 1863, in Company F, 11th Missouri Cavalry and served to the close of the war.
He married Elizabeth Ellen "Eliza" Butcher on 29 Aug 1866 in Middlebury, Mercer, Missouri, USA. To this union seven children were born, Delila, Osie L., Eldona M., George W., David L., Charles N. and Lilly N. Covey.
He died on 07 April 1922 in Mill Grove, Mercer County, Missouri, USA at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 23 days.
He was called Uncle John and had been in the General Merchandise mercantile business for over 40 years in Mill Grove, at the time of his death.
He was taken ill, 16 Mar 1921, and was in constant pain for the last year of his life.
