Thomas the son of Thomas Gilbert was born in Springfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony 15 Mar 1658.[1]. Thomas died in 1698 at Brookfield.
Thomas Gilbert, III (March 15, 1659/1660 Springfield, – d. there May 14, 1698) married Aug. 4, 1680, Abilene Marshfield (April 2, 1664 – Nov. 26, 1689) daughter of Samuel and Hester (Wright) Marshfield;

After the death of his first wife in 1689, Thomas remarried, in 1690, to Anna Bancroft. married 2nd April 1690 (daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Wright) Bancroft of Enfield, Conn)., Anna married 2nd James Sexton of Westfield;

John Gilbert (b. March 16, 1691) married Stratford, Nov. 25 1714, Patience Lattin;
Margaret Gilbert (b. March 27, 1693);
Sarah Gilbert (b. Jan 18, 1694/5); and
Anna Gilbert (b. Feb. 16, 1696/7) married Joseph Segar married Thomas Gilbert, the son of Thomas Gilbert and Catherine Chapin was living in Springfield, Massachusetts by 1680, when he married Abilene Marshfield.
Thomas moved to Brookfield, Massachusetts with his brother, Henry. "Capt. Henry Gilbert was sent to Ouobaug (Brookfield) to protect the settlers from the Indians, and built a fort there, afterward settling there with his brother Thomas Gilbert {III}."[2]

Thomas (2) married 1st Martha Barns, daughter of Thomas, d Nov 18, 1740 and 2nd 27 May 1741 to Mercy Barns, (his niece) widow of Samuel, and daughter of Deacon Henry Gilbert. Children: Jonathan, David, Bathsheba, Mary, Uriah, Martha, Josiah, Jonathan, Thomas, Thomas (3), Eunice, Lois, and Dinah.
The aforementioned (Deacon) Henry is the brother of Thomas (s)
