Johnathan Hammond (abt. 1716)

ohn Cooke was born in 1607 at Leyden, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands.1 He was the son of Francis Cooke and Hester Mayhieu. John Cooke married Sarah Warren, daughter of Richard Warren and Elizabeth Walker, on 28 March 1634 at Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA.1 John Cooke died on 9 November 1694 at Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA. He was the last survivor of the settlement of Plymouth in 1620.1 Will: 36 Yarmouth, Mass., Vital Records.

Samuel Hammond was born in 1655 at Yarmouth, Barnstable Co., MA.1 He was the son of Benjamin Hammond and Mary Vincent.1 The first settlers of Mettapoisett were probably Samuel Hammond and his brother John, who came from Sandwich in 1680 and settled in the southwest part of the town. He was one of the founders of the First Church of Rochester.2 Samuel Hammond married Mary (Mercy) Hathaway, daughter of Arthur Hathaway and Sarah Cooke, circa 1681 at Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA.1 His father-in-law, Arthur Hathaway deeded him lands in March 1714. Samuel was a prominent man in Rochester, Mass. and a large land owner.3 Samuel Hammond died in 1728 at Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA.1

Jonathan Hammond was born on 3 February 1747 at Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA.1 He was the son of Johathan Hammond and Sarah Jones. In April 1762, he enlisted in Capt. Isaac Ter Bush's Company of Provincial troops raised in Dutchess County. His age is given as seventeen years, birthplace New England, statue five feet four inches. He was a Revolutionary soldier in the Albany County Militia under Col. John McCrea.2,3
