Samuel C. Hockman, born North Mountain neighborhood, Shenandoah County, Virginia, 1874, son of Samuel Hockman and Seatta Cullers, married Abbie Frances Bly and lived on the Hockman farm, where he grew up, along Little North Mountain, west of Strasburg. He was a self-taught veterinarian, who was often called upon to help the local farmers care for their livestock.
