James McCarrell is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A209910.

According to writing of Gene Carter, the name McCarroll was spelled "McKarel" in Ireland, and that James McCarrell / aka McCarroll was born in [Ulster] Ireland on Sept. 28, 1728. And that he died on July 13, 1813, in Knox Co, Tennessee, and was buried at the McCarrell Cemetery, Knox County, Tennessee.

Carter also states that James came from Ireland to America about 1750 to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and moved to Fincastle, Boutetourt Co, Virginia, about 1770. He married Margaret McKibbon in Virginia on Nov. 27, 1777.

James McCarrell was born either in Ireland or Scotland, and married there, Mary Bohanan. It is not clear whether he had issue by this marriage, but Mary died at his initial destination of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. [1]

James' second wife was Margaret McKibbon, whom he met and married after moving to Virginia. They were married on November 27, 1777, and lived for a while at least in Virginia, as his Bible inscription records him at Fincastle, Virginia, in 1793. The time of his arrival in East Tennessee is not known.

This record reconstructed from subject's Bible. The following notation is on the fly-leaf:

"James McCarroll, his Bible, bought the fourth day of April, 1793, of Mathers, Harvey and Martch, Ltd., in Fincastle, Botetourt County, State of Virginia, price L4/6s. God give his grace thereon to look, and not to look, but meditate on his words Day and Night, and in understanding take delight."
