William Pillow was born Jan 1772 Guilford County (Now Rockingham), North Carolina. He was the executor of his father’s estate, Davidson Co., Tennessee, Court Minutes Book B, p. 103, William Pillow appointed administrator of estate of John Pillow, the widow, Ursula Pillow, having declined, July 9, 1793.
Was a Colonel of the 2nd Regiment, 10th Militia, Tennessee, In 1787 he shot and killed the Indian chief, Big Foot, saving the life of Luke Anderson. Served in the Nickajack expedition in 1794. William also served with Andrew Jackson during the Indian Wars and in the War of 1812. Lt. Colonel, enlisted Nov 21, 1812 in 2nd Regiment Volunteer Infantry, promoted from Lt. Colonel on Sept 26, 1813 by order of General Andrew Jackson, wounded Nov 9, 1813. [1]
Was in Mobile, Alabama, at a Court Martial when the Battle of New Orleans was fought. (POW until 4 Jan 1819)
His first wife’s name is unknown; he married 2nd Portia Thomas, on Dec 19, 1812 in Williamson County, TN. William died May 1868 in Maury County, TN [2]
From his pension record, Col Pillow lived briefly in the 1840's in Madison County, Tenn.
