Biography

Thomas (I) was born about 1710. He passed away about 1770. There is no source for either his birth or death, and 1710-1770 is an approximate estimate. While there is an entry in the records of Wigan, Lancashire, England for a marriage between Thomas Tarlton and Esther Bradshaw on 26 August 1742, there is no further indication that this is the Thomas Tarlton connected to North Carolina.

There is as yet no documentation of when the Thomas Tarlton line migrated from Virginia to North Carolina and if there were stops along the way before settling in Anson County, NC. It is unclear whether the 1758 seller of 100 acres of land in Southampton County, Virginia was Thomas (I), born about 1710, or Thomas (II), born about 1730. However, the sale records indicate that one or both of these Thomases were living somewhere in North Carolina in 1758. It's possible the family had located to Anson County when this land transaction occurred.
