Biography
Mary "Mayme" Crescent Texter was born on Friday, March 12, 1880 in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. Her parents were August Texter (Thursday, November 4,1852 - Sunday, December 12, 1915) and Mary P. Schauer Texter (Friday, May 28,1858 - Friday, September 7, 1928). Her father was a carpenter.
Mayme married George Nicholas Remmels in Canton on Tuesday, February 16, 1904. They had one daughter, Mary Jane Remmels, born in Canton on Saturday, October 16, 1909, who died in infancy on Monday, October 18, 1909.
A Meyers Lake picnic for the Golden Rod camp, Royal Neighbors of America, was held on Wednesday, August 16, 1911, over sixty being present. Supper was served at Mayme's cottage. Tables were placed on the lawn and Japanese lanterns were strung from the treetops for lighting.
Mayme was active in the Golden Rod Sewing Circle of the Royal Neighbors of America. At their meeting Thursday afternoon, January 18, 1912, she was given the prize for winning the guessing contest.
On the morning of Saturday, December 21, 1935, Mrs. Remmels was the first person in Canton to telephone in the customary first winter report of robin staying north during the recent cold spell.
Mayme began spending winters in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1939.
On Tuesday, February 23, 1937, Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Remmels, were elected delegates to the Royal Neighbors of America to be held in April of 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio. On Thursday, January 13, 1949, Mrs. Frank Morgan and Mrs. Mame Remmels were awarded fifty year membership pins as charter members of the Golden Rod Camp, Royal Neighbors of America.
Mayme passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 1973, in St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida.
