THE FOLLOWING IS TAKEN FROM DONALD MURPHY'S FAMILY TREE AT ANCESTRY.COM:
"...According to the book SHIPLEY, MITCHELL, THOMPSON, 1964, StithThompson died in 1796. He immigrated to KY County, VA from VA in about1789. He was from Dinwiddie Co., VA (Dinwiddie did not become a countyuntil about 1750-Prince George before) from where he moved to MecklenburgCo., in 1779. His mother was a Stith. Robert Thompson was the originalimmigrant from England in 1680 when he was 30 years old. He obtained landsouth of the James River.
Stith Thompson is found in Dinwiddie Co., VA, beginning in 1771 andfrom 1778 to 1788 in Mecklenburg County, VA. His family seems to havebeen settled within the same general neighborhood--Henrico Co., and afterit was formed, Chesterfield Co., VA for at least a century.....theThompson and Stith families lived close together just south of the JamesRiver. Likewise Stith Thompson's marriage to a Reeves (Rives) inDinwiddie Co., correct...the family should seem to have been reasonablyprosperous from our first acquaintance with it around 1680 and to havelived the life of second class tidewater folk. They certainly have notleft records that show participation in government. But the marriage ofone of them into the Stith family in the 1740's is significant of theiracceptance socially. For the Stiths were definitely among the firstfamilies and brought with them the blood of Col. William Randolph ofTurkey Island, from whom descended many of the famous Virginians.Apparently the Thompson family flourished in Dinwiddie County eventhrough the ninteenth century, since Stith Thompson's brother William andespecially William's son Stith were persons of means and influence.
"In Dinwiddie County Stith Thompson married a Miss Reeves (Rives), andhis elder children were born there. After moving, about 1778, toMecklenburg Co., VA on the southern border, he served as lieutenant inthe militia (Virginia Revolutionary "Publick" Claims-Mecklenburg County,VA) and he eventually acquired 1023 acres of land. His first wife died in1785. He married Elizabeth Parke (Parks). He had eight or ten slaves, several of whom he brought with him to KY. In 1788 or 1789 he came withhis family--wife, seven sons, and several slaves to Washington County,KY. The first official record there is in October, 1792. He bought landon Beech Fork in 1795 and died shortly thereafter in 1796. By his secondwife he had 3 sons born in KY. After his death his widow Elizabeth actedas executrix and established the family on the place on Beech Fork. By1808 the records speak of the "mansion and office." Seth Thompson andseveral members of the family were buried in the family graveyard on theplace."
