Biography

George Wyatt/Wiatt was born about 1764 in South Carolina.[1]

George and his brothers Charles Wyatt (or Wiatt) and Thomas were traveling through the Hopkins County, Kentucky area. Charles' wagon broke down on the road and with no one to repair it he decided that was just as good a place as any to settle. Thomas supposedly managed to make his way further west and eventually settled in Oregon.[2]

George made his way to Warren County, Kentucky, where he married Delilah Nations on 7 February 1804. George Wyatt and Joseph Nations were listed as the responsible parties on the marriage bond. See attached image. [3] After his marriage, George returned to Hopkins County, where his brother Charles had acquired a great deal of land and had plenty to spare for his brother. George built his house on a half-acre plot in the middle of the land, where they raised their 13 children.[2] Throughout the years many stories have been told about this plot of land that came to be known as Hell's Half Acre. Nearly a hundred years later it is difficult to distinguish between those that are fact and those that are fiction. With its bad reputation, the half acre and the land surrounding it became fertile ground for pranksters and many a strange and mysterious tale. See referenced link for more stories.[2]

George died in Beulah, Hopkins County, Kentucky and was buried at the Wyatt Cemetery also called Hell's Half Acre Cemetery. His Find A Grave Memorial doesn't show a tombstone photo and incorrectly states that he was referenced in the "The Wiatt Family of Virginia".[4]

Find A Grave Memorial #66723330 for George Wyatt (born 1764) shows he died 29 October 1855. However, the administrators bond for George Wyatt implies that he died prior to 1 January 1858, probably December 1857. Colby S Wyatt, son of George Wyatt, was appointed administrator of his father's estate.
