Not to be confused with Laurus Crawfordiana by George Crawfurd. This earlier manuscript records the ancestry of Crawford families in Scotland up until the 1730s by a contemporary researcher. It is mentioned briefly in this later work (and the name is obviously a derivative of the same) but is dismissed as an account only of the landed and titled Crawfords, and so attempts to explain the absence of John Crawford (b.1600).

Laurus Crawfurdiana

Subtitled "Memorials of that Branch of the Crawford Family which Comprises the Descendants of John Crawford of Virginia, 1660-1883 : with Notices of the Allied Families", this text catalogues the families from the legendary John Crawford of Virginia (b.1600) who emigrated to the United States in 1643 with his son David (b. 1625). This has been represented as a claim of descent from the Kilbirnie branch of Clan Crawford which DNA has proven to be incorrect (although such a claim does not exist within this work. Unfortunately, no concrete sources are given for John's existence other than family legend from descendants several generations removed. This work is an excellent resource for descendants in the New World from David Crawford I (b. 1625) forward in time as it relates to the family in the Virginia colony and later the United States of America.

It begins with a discussion of the family legends regarding the origin of the surname, and then a collection of the supposed experiences of the gateway ancestor, John Crawford (b.1600).
