was home in Canada, I sent my voucher to Columbus Agency, and being as how I was in a foreign country The government paid me from Washington D.C. and so it is now.
Were you a Sergeant in the Army?
No sir.
This pension Certificate shows that you were a Sergeant - a First Sergeant of your Company.
That is wrong, sir. I was only a private.
Have you a discharge paper?
No sir. I lost it and when I applied for pension I as my attorney wrote in to Boston and got a record; I don't know sir what that record showed; I could not read or write.
Did you have any brothers?
Yes. "John" and "Bill."
