Home at Grand Rapids, Michigan - was in the same Company with me. I was out to Sergeant Pinckney's house while there at the Soldiers Home. Tom Holland who lived near the Soldiers Home Grand Rapids Michigan when I was there - was in the same Company I was in while in the army and he went with me to the house of Sergeant Pinckney. It seems like there were two or three other men named Jackson in the same company I was in but I don't know for certain. Arthur Allen, in Pontiac Michigan, claimed he had my sister and he was my brother-in-law - he never was "no kisses" to me - not related. I never met that Arthur Allen. I heard he was in the army but he was not in the same Regiment with me or if he was I did not know it.

Sergeant, but I could not read or write and I never was a Sergeant.

I was in the same Company and same Regiment all the time I was in the army and was discharged after General Lee surrendered, at the close of the war.

The "duplicate" (certificate of service above referred to E.B.O.) sent to me from Boston, Massachusetts - is all wrong. I never was in Adrian, Michigan - and I never was a blacksmith - and I never was a Sergeant and was never transferred to the 55th Massachusetts Colored Infantry - but to say positively under oath I could not tell you what Company I was in. I am sure my Sergeant was Sergeant Pinckney who lived a little ways from the Soldiers Home while I was in the Soldiers
