Her mother Janet at age 19 ,came to Australia with her half-brother David Shearer and family on the vessel "Fortune" in 1853. The rest of the Russell family ,including her married sisters,and families, and her other half-brother James Gilmour(Shearer), emigrated to Australia, arriving at Sydney on the Vessel " Sirocco " in 1864.
Mary Russell and John Hamilton are cousins Mary's husband John Hamilton, was the son of Andrew Hamilton, who married Mary Russell, A sister to Janet Richards ( Russell )
