This was originally a cotton factory operated by the Townsend family. In 1869 James Broadhead bought the property and started a woolen mill. In 1886 the Firth brothers of England bought the property and started the Firth Carpet Company. The area near Firthcliffe was known as "Montana".
This view of Firth Carpet Mill was taken from Highway 32 in New Windsor, New York.
