In B.J.7, Lowry Sanders is set forth, by said Marshall, as having known claimant in 1865 or 1866. Sanders swears he was discharged from the service, as shown by discharge certificate exhibit, Feb. 6, 1866; that he then lived in Jeffersonville, Ind. (50 or 60 or 70 mi. from Hanover, Ind. A.J.G.), for about two years and then went to Hanover, Ind. to live. As this man says he lived at Jeffersonville about two years after his discharge his statement that he got acquainted with claimant about a month before the latter went to the regulars

B.J.5 was, it appears, signed by Daniel B. Forsen and Samuel Sanders with James Smith as attesting witness. The name of James Smith was, in my opinion, from long experience with writing of said Marshall, forged by said Marshall. In this connection are claim of William A. McQuinn, Cert. No. 242,613, reported by me Feb. 27, 1899. Compare, herein, the "S" of Smith with with those of Samuel Sanders to same instrument. Compare the "the" of Smith with the "the" written by said Marshall in B.J.4,6,7 and 8 under[TBD] by [TBD] with blue marks. In said McQuinn's case the name of James Hill was also forged by said Marshall, in my opinion. Compare the J of that forging with the J in affidavits in this case and the writer will be said to be the same by expert persons in handwriting. No one knows a James Smith made extensive inquiry extending over from this.
