Hosokawa Masuo was born in Osaka on 29 November 1924, the first son of Hosokawa Eiichi and Hatsu. He graduated from the Graduate School of Engineering at Kyoto University after attending the former Naniwa High School.
After working for Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. since 1946, Masuo succeeded his father as the president and chairman of Hosokawa Iron Works, which was renamed Hosokawa Micron during his tenure. In 2003, he became representative director of the company, and during his tenure, the company's 20 billion yen in debt was reduced.
In 2006, Masuo became a non-executive director of Tohoku University. He received numerous awards, including the Medal with Purple Ribbon and the Order of the Rising Sun. He died from pneumonia on 31 March 2010.
