Aono Takeshi was born in Asahikawa, Hokkaido on 19 June 1936. His background and education are unknown, as are his parents, but it is known that he married during his lifetime. He graduated from Hokkaido Asahikawa Higashi High School.
Takeshi voiced several characters in anime and video gaming. He is best known as the Japanese voice of Colonel Roy Campbell in the Metal Gear series and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (his voice was posthumously reused in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate). He also voiced Dr. Wily in several Mega Man games released for Sony's PlayStation.
In addition, Takeshi voiced Sanada Shirō in Space Battleship Yamato, Rihaku in Fist of the North Star, Nurarihyon in GeGeGe no Kitarō, Piccolo Daimao and Kami-sama in the Dragon Ball series, Kumada Kumahachi in Kiteretsu Daihyakka, Dakuan in Ninja Scroll, Deathsaurus in Transformers: Victory, Mishima Jinpachi's devil form in Tekken 5 (as well as Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and Tekken Tag Tournament 2) and Sakura Tomozō in Chibi Maruko-chan.
In May 2010, Takeshi was hospitalised for aortic dissection and suffered a stroke afterward, ending his career as a voice actor; his ongoing roles at the time were replaced by other voice actors. He died in Tokyo on 9 April 2012 after suffering several cerebral infarctions following surgery.
