Dorothy Stanton, born in 1651, was the sixth child of Anna Lord & Thomas Stanton. Her birth location is not certain. Most likely it was either in Hartford, Connecticut, where her older siblings were born, or in the Stonington area where her birth family was in the process of relocating during the 1651 to 1657 time period.
Dorothy Stanton married James Noyes, son of James & Sarah (Brown) Noyes, on 12 Sep 1674 at Stonington, New London County, Connecticut. They had 7 children during the ensuing timeframe through March 1692, all born at Stonington:
By some accounts she may have married a William Denison, however evidence for such is weak. Care should be observed as not to confuse this Dorothy Stanton with her sister Sarah Stanton, who did marry in 1686 Lieut. William Stanton, of Stonington. Sarah died in August 1713, at which time Dorothy remained living, and William Denison remained living until 1715, so it is plausible that a late-life marriage of Dorothy with William could have occurred for that brief interval. Additional probity should be applied to determine if this concept is valid.
Dorothy (Stanton) Noyes died 19 Jan 1742/43 at Stonington. Her grave is in Wequetequock Burying Ground [1][2], which is northeast of Stonington at the junction of Palmer Neck and Greenhaven Rds., just 200 feet from the Boston Post Road (U.S. Route 1). Her gravestone reads
In Memory of Dorothy ye wife of ye Reverd Mr. James Noyes Deceased who died Janryye 19th 1742/3in ye 91st year of her age.
