Ebenezer Hibbard was born in Massachusetts.

Ebenezer, the fourth son and fifth of twelve children of Robert Hibbard Jr and Mary Walden was born in 1682 and baptized Ebenezar Hibberd [sic] in May of that year at Wenham, Massachusetts Colony.^[1]

Marriage and Children

Ebenezer married Margaret (alias Margery) Morgan, the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Parke) Morgan on 16 March 1709 at Windham, Connecticut Colony.^[2][3] Ebenezer came to Windham with his father in 1700. He and Margaret settled in Windham, Connecticut Colony where their eight children were born^[4]:

Death and Estate

Ebenezer Hibbard died before 1 September 1730 when administration on his estate was granted to (his brothers) Robert and Joseph Hibbard.^[13] An inventory of the estate was taken 10 September.^[14]

The personal estate was divided 24 February 1736/37, with the following heirs named: Nathan, eldest son; Ruben, second son; Ebenezer, 3d son; Shubal, 4th son; Prudence, eldest daughter; Margaret, 2d daughter; Keziah, 3d daughter; Abigail, 4th daughter.^[15]

6 November 1752, Jedediah Elderkin, attorney to Shubael Hebberd of Middletown, petitioned the court for a division of the real estate, with the following heirs named: Nathan, 1st son; Ruben, 2d son; Ebenezer, 3d son; Prudence Delano, 1st dau.; Margaret Welch, 2nd dau.; Keziah, 3rd dau.; Abigail, 4th dau.^[16]

The date of Margaret (Morgan) Hibbard's death is not recorded. She is not named in any of the preceding probate documents.

Burial

Ebenezer's burial location is not known; however, he has a Find-A-Grave Memorial.^[17]

Research Notes

• Hibbard's genealogy spells Ebenezer's last name as Hibbard.^[18]The Windham town record of their marriage spells it Hibard. The Morgan Genealogy lists him as Herbert. The Barbour Collection of Vital Records has lumped all the different spellings of this name together, so it can't be told how the original spellings were.
• Ebenezer and Margaret (Morgan) Hibbard are ancestors to Lady Diana Frances (Spencer) Mountbatten-Windsor, Princess of Wales through their daughter Kezia Hibbard, who married Caleb Bishop.^[19][20]
