Marriage to Benjamin Smith Dugger

A marriage license was given to Benjamin S. Dugger and Charlotte Asher in Johnson County, Tennessee on 5 November 1861. The couple was married by Solomon Q. Dugger, a Justice of the Peace, on the 5th of November 1861.

Benjamin S. Dugger joined the Confederate Army and did not return home to Charlotte. As such, Charlotte applied for Letters of Administration and assumed Ben was killed in action. She was awarded the Letters of Administration by the court in Johnson County on 9th December 1865.

Research Notes

Charlotte had her husband, Benjamin S. Dugger, declared dead in 1865 but continued to have children. It is unclear who exactly fathered each of her children (aside from her oldest, Sarah, which is likely Benjamin S. Dugger's child. There have been rumors passed down the generations, including that Elijah Bunton or Andrew Harmon fathered one or more of her children. According to DNA, it seems likely that Andrew Harmon fathered Monroe Dugger. Doerflinger-1 21:05, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
