Timothy Pierce (or De Pierce, de Parrs) was born in 1674, the son of Thomas de Pierce III. According to "Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine Vol IV", he was the second son of Thomas and Eliza Worthington Pierce, (and was) born in January 25, 1673.
Timothy went to Plainfield with his brother, Thomas Pierce, about 1690, and was one the most prominent and respected citizens of Windham County This biography is largely from "Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine Vol IV" He was ensign of Plainfield's train band in 1708, and when the town attained to the dignity of a full train band in 1711, Timothy Pierce was made lieutenant.
Timothy Pierce was tavern keeper in 1716, one of the committee building a the new meeting house in 1718, and their being ready for occupancy in September, 1720, he was one of those chosen to attend to the seating... So arduous were the duties of this committee that they were allowed one pound sterling for their care and services.
Colonel Timothy Pierce succeeded Thomas Williams in 1723 as captain of the train band (Trainbands or Trained Bands were companies of militia in England or the Americas, first organized in the 16th century and dissolved in the 18th. The term was used after this time to describe the London militia. In the early American colonies the trainband was the most basic tactical unit.)
In 1739, when the military companies of Plainfield, Canterbury, Pomfret, Killingly and Voluntown were constituted the 11th Connecticut Regiment, Timothy Pierce was appointed colonel.
He was representative from 1717 to 1726; justice of the peace in 1718; justice of the quorum for New London county; judge of the probate court in the Windham Disrict in 1725. The first court of common pleas within and for the county of Windham was held at Windham Green June 25, 1726, and Timothy Pierce, previously judge of probate, was appointed by the general assembly judge of the county court.
He was appointed to inspect the Canterbury Bridge in 1722, and was one of those to consider the building of a state house in 1729.
Timothy Pierce was town clerk from 1725 to 1748, when his son Ezekiel, who was a captain in the French and Indian Wars, became cleark and continued for 25 years.
Timothy Pierce first married Lydia Spaulding on May 27, 1696 (she died March 23, 1705). Their children were:
After Lydia's death, Timothy married Hannah Bradhurst on Dec. 14, 1682- April 2, 1747, and that marriage lasted until her death on Oct. 12, 1709. Their children were:
Col. Timothy Pierce (dePierce) Esquire New England Historical & Genealogical Register passed away in 1748 at the age of 73. According to Abstract of the Graves of Revolutionary Patriots, he is buried in the Old Town Cemetery in Plainfield, Connecticut.
