Thomas Fleetwood was born about 1518 probably in his father's home county of Lancashire, son of William Fleetwood [1] and his wife, Helena Standish.
His first wife was Barbara Francis. Barbara was either daughter or cousin of Andrew Francis of London.[1] She was mother of 3 sons and a daughter.[1]
In 1552 Thomas acquired from Agnes Waterton her life interest in one third of the manor of Vache at Chalfont St Giles in Buckinghamshire. Agnes died in 1558 and her son, Anthony Restwold who held the other two thirds died childless in 1560. Those two thirds Thomas also acquired from Anthony's six sisters, Elizabeth Titley, Jane Lee, Katherine Fitzherbert, Beatrice Waterton, Margaret Greenhill and Bridget Bunny.[2]
Thomas was first returned to Parliament as member for Preston in Lancashire in March 1553, but in 1563 he was member for Buckinghamshire.[1]
In June 1563 he married his second wife, Bridget Spring, daughter of Sir John Spring of Lavenham in Suffolk [1] and his wife, Dorothy Waldegrave.[3][4] They were the parents of 7 sons and 7 daughters. [1]
Thomas died on 1 November 1570 in London and was buried at Chalfont, St. Giles. History of Parliament dates his death to December. [1] He was succeeded by his sixth but eldest surviving son, George, at The Vache. [2]
