Name

Note: Prince is not a title, it is his given name: Prince Perry. He is one of many Massachusetts namesakes of Governor Thomas Prence, Jr, with bad (but common) spelling. See Prince Coffin, Prince Doane, Prince Snow, and others.

He was born November 3, 1744, the son of Moses Perry and Eleanor Ellis of Sandwich, Massachusetts^{[1] [2] [3] [4]}

On March 13, 1772, he married Mercy Cobb, daughter of Thomas Cobb of Truro, Massachusetts^{[5] [6] [3]}. Their children included:

1. Ruth, born July 20, 1775^[7], who married James Byron on December 10, 1804^[3]

Prince fought as a Patriot in the American Revolution:

• Cpl., Cont. Army, Col. Hy Sherburne's Regt. 29 Sep. 1777-31 Dec. 1779;
• Cpl., Cont. Army Capt. Wm North's Co., Col. Hy Jackson's (16th) Regt. 1 Jan. 1780-29 Sep. 1780
• Pvt., Capt. Elihu Gifford's Co., Col. Turner's Regt. 17 July 1781-27 Nov. 1781

Mercy (Cobb) Perry died, possibly in the unrest related to the Revolution. This NEGHR article notes that Prince's family moved to Yarmouth Nova Scotia in 1760, and there was some back and forth^[3], however this theory raises two questions: it may not be consistent with Prince's military record during the Revolution, and it raises the question of why he is not noted in the Nova Scotia records for this family.

On September 23, 1782, Prince Perry married Deliverance Gross in Truro^[8], and their children included:

1. Moses, born September 1787^[9], who married Lois Collins, June 14, 1810^[3]
2. Deliverance, born October 6, 1793^[10], who married Theophilius Rich on August 10, 1813^[3]

These records don't show death information for Prince Perry. This profile shows he died some time after the death of his youngest child.

Per Truro town records, he died in 1804.^[11]
