Disputed Associations

  • Mary Slye (1635-1700), said born Hingham, Norfolk, England, 1635, was associated as the daughter of George Slye, but hardly seems to fit in his family and was disputed by WikiTree collaborators. This association is being severed in 2022. See the G2G, "Proposal to sever Mary Slye associations ...."
  • Deborah Gardner was attached as the wife of George Slye, with no source discovered. She has been detached.

Biography

The parish records of Lapworth and adjacent parishes contain several Slye entries. It is probable that the entry for George Slye who was christened 4th day Sep 1564 at Lapworth is the person represented by this profile. No parent's names were provided in the record.[1] [2]

In June 1604, George Slye of Lapworth sued Nicholas Lea and John Coxe for damage and waste caused at the Manor of Rowington. It is probable that George Slye was steward of Rowington.[1]

The following are the children of George Slye; recorded in the registers of Lapworth; her wife is not named:[1]

Children:
  1. John was baptized August 9, 1600.
  2. Elnor was baptized November 1, 1603.
  3. Susanne was baptized October 25, 1609
  4. Thomas was baptized September 1, 1611.
  5. Elizabeth was buried April 12, 1616.
  6. Sarah was baptized October 29, 1615 at Lapworth Parish. Married Thomas Cooper of Springfield.
  7. George was baptized November 16, 1617.
  8. Elisabeth was baptized December 19, 1619 at Lapworth. She was known as Elizabeth Russell of London in 1670. Her oldest son lived in America and was a legatee in the will of in the will of Robert Slye.
  9. Robert was baptized July 8, 1627. baptized at Lapworth Parish, Warwickshire; youngest son of George Slye of Lapworth.

Baptismal gaps and no later marriage and burial records pertaining to this family suggests the idea that they may have moved to a different parish where the records are not accessible at the present.[1]

Not Related

The wife of Henry Glover was not surnamed "Slye" since Elinor appears to early to have been the wife of Henry Glover, plus Robert Slye did not name any Glovers in his will.[1]

Proposal on G2G to sever seemingly confused daughter, Mary Slye. See "Proposal to sever Mary Slye associations, including as wife of Thomas Cooper baptized 1630 (PGM)" -- Gene

The daughter "Mary Slye" attached here is not listed in the bap. records. Plus Mary's bap is at Hingham, Norfolk, nor Lapworth Warwickshire as the other children.
TAG 57 says his wife is not named in the parish registers of Lapworth, Warwickshire, Eng. (where there are baptismal records for children.) Plus Deborah Gardner-371 is an unsourced profile. What do we want to do? change Gardner-371 to Unknown Unknown? OR detach and create a new profile for wife named Unknown?

I found no source that states the wife of George Slye was Deborah Gardner.

Found by anyone else?

A Richard Slye married 16 June 1622 at Lapworth to Elizabeth Prise.
