Biography
Dorothy Temple, daughter of John Temple, Knt.[1] by his first wife, Dorothy Lee,[2] was baptized 17 October 1616 at Stowe, Buckinghamshire.[3][4]
On 4 January 1634/5, at Odell, Bedfordshire, Dorothy married John Alston,[3][5] Esq., the son of Thomas Alston, Gent., and Frances Blomfield.[1][3] Dorothy and John were step-siblings: her father married second to his mother. They had four sons and seven daughters, including:
Frances, wife of Edward Reynolds, D.D.,[3] was baptized 20 March 1635/6 at Odell, Bedfordshire[1][6]
Dorothy, wife of Thomas Wells, Esq.,[3] (twin?) was baptized 13 August 1637[1][6]
Elizabeth, wife of Longworth Crosse,[3] was baptized 25 March 1638/9[1][6]
Mary,[3] baptized 27 November 1642,[6] buried 13 May 1643 (1644?) at Odell[1][7]
Thomas,[3] left a will dated 18 June 1675, proved 2 July 1678 by John Alston his father, mentions his siblings[1]
John,[3] apprenticed in 1660,[8] married Anne Wallis[1]
Edward[3] or Edmund, apprenticed in 1672[8] living in 1711[1]
Mary (second of name), wife of John Leman,[1][3] probably born after 1643 (sister's death)
Sarah,[3] was named in her cousin Edward's will[1]
Frances (second of name), wife of _________ Whitelocke,[3] was named in her cousin Edward's will[1]
John Alston received the manor of Pavenham in about 1649 and likely moved his family from Odell at that time,[9] however, there are no baptisms for the family listed in Odell after 1642.
Dorothy was buried at Pavenham, Bedfordshire, on 5 December 1668. Her husband, John, was buried there 15 August 1687.[3][10]
Research Notes
This profile was previously in a Magna Carta trail to several surety barons from "Gateway Ancestor" John Alston. As there is not enough evidence to support the connection between Dorothy's son, William and the Gateway John Alston of South Carolina, the relationship has been severed.
