Biography

Penelope was born about 1754 in Union, Tolland County, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Ephraim Patch and Penelope Dana.^[1]

Penelope married Joseph Ring December 7, 1780 in Worthington, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.^[2]

Joseph and Penelope had eight or nine children before Joseph passed away in 1796.^[3]

Mrs. Penelope Ring, relict of Joseph, married Ichabod Walker February 20, 1799 in Worthington, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.^[4]

At the time of her second marriage, Penelope was the mother of eight or nine children between the ages of five and eighteen: Susanna 18, Samuel 17, Joseph 15, George 12, Ira 11, Abigail 9, Elizabeth 6, Levi 5 and, possibly, Sergeant 6. They were fathered by Joseph Ring.^[3]

Ichabod's first wife, Abigail Logia, had passed away the previous year. They had fourteen children during their marriage:^[4]

• Five of his fourteen children died young: Olive (1 Mar 1770 - Sep 1770); Abraham (1 May 1776 - abt 20 Mar 1779); Abigail (10 Dec 1784 - 1786); Abel (6 Mar 1786 - 2 Apr 1792); and Sylvanus (1 Nov 1787 - 1790).
• Four older children could have left his household: Asa 27 married in 1794; Hannah Walker Moon 25 married in 1796; Benjamin 21 married; and Sarah Walker Evans married. At least three of them were probably not in Ichabod's household.
• At least five children were in his household at the time of his marriage to Penelope: Ichabod 17,Abraham 11, Abel 9, Polly 6, and Abigail 3.

Penelope and Ichabod started their marriage with at least thirteen children under the age of eighteen.^[5]
